Episode 93: How to Get That Paper PR – How to ‘Get Ink’ with Maleeka Hollaway of The OMG

I love print media. A lot of people love TV, and I enjoy this podcast and worked in radio for several years, but my background is in print media — I worked for The Detroit Free Press (Detroit’s largest daily newspaper) for many, many years.

The truth is that good press in paper publications (aka “getting ink”) sets you apart from people who got a few minutes of fame on television or are only famous on social media.

In fact, my guest for this episode, publicist Maleeka Hollaway of The OMG, leveraged print media into a 6-figure month (not year but month) for her client’s interior design business.

So, if you’ve ever wanted to make a lasting impression by being featured in black publications like Black Enterprise, Essence, and Ebony (as well as Forbes, Business Insider, Entrepreneur, or The Huffington Post), then this is your episode.

Get a pen and take good notes as we talk about: the problem with ‘ego marketing,’ what makes this era PR 2.0, how publicists help people turn publicity into profits, how to measure the return on your PR investment (tip: there’s more to it than money), the #1 form of advertising (hint: influencers bank on it), what to do BEFORE you write your book, the wrong way to build multiple income streams, plus a whole lot more.

"PR is like having third-party credibility or third-party verification. It’s somebody else saying you’re great, you’re amazing, you know what you’re doing.” – Maleeka Hollaway
