We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Dr. Pam Perry. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Dr. Pam below.

Hi Dr. Pam, appreciate you sitting with us today to share your wisdom with our readers. So, let’s start with resilience – where do you get your resilience from?
Oh, let me tell you about resilience. You see, growing up in the streets of Detroit, I learned a thing or two about tough times. Life didn’t always hand me a silver spoon or a smooth ride, but I found strength in the face of adversity. And where did I get that resilience? Well, it’s a beautiful blend of experiences, influences, and sheer determination.

First and foremost, my family played a vital role. They were the backbone of my strength. I come from a long line of hardworking folks who taught me the value of perseverance. They showed me that no matter how tough things got, you never give up. Their unwavering support and love became the fuel that ignited my fire, even in the darkest of days.

Detroit itself, oh, it’s a city like no other. Its spirit is etched into my very being. I witnessed the rise and fall, the struggles and triumphs of a place that never stopped fighting. The resilience of my community, the resolute belief that we can rise above any challenge, seeped into my soul. Detroit taught me to push through, to keep going when everything seemed against me.

And then there were the mentors who believed in me, who saw my potential even when I doubted myself. These incredible individuals, who saw past my circumstances and recognized my worth, inspired me to reach for the stars. They instilled in me the idea that I was capable of so much more than what my circumstances dictated. Their faith in me became a beacon of hope, guiding me forward.

But above all, my resilience comes from within, from that indomitable spirit that refuses to be broken. It’s a deep-rooted belief that no matter how many times life knocks you down, you have the power to rise again. It’s that inner voice that whispers, “You’ve got this, Pam. You’re stronger than you know.”

Resilience isn’t just a quality. It’s a choice—a choice to face adversity head-on, to stand tall in the face of challenges, and to keep pushing forward no matter what. It’s a choice to turn setbacks into stepping stones, to transform pain into purpose. So, where do I get my resilience from? I get it from a lifetime of experiences, from the love of my family, from the unyielding spirit of my community, from the mentors who believed in me, and most importantly, from the depths of my own soul. That’s where my resilience is born and nurtured.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
Let me take you back and share with you the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that truly made an impact on my journey. My time at Cass Tech and Wayne State, along with my early years at the Free Press, shaped me into the determined and resilient publicist I am today. So, listen up, because I’m about to give you some heartfelt advice.

First and foremost, grit was an essential quality that carried me through. I learned early on that success doesn’t come easy, especially in a tough industry like public relations. It’s the ability to persevere, to push through obstacles, and to keep going even when things get tough. My advice to those starting out on their journey is to embrace challenges, don’t shy away from hard work, and never lose sight of your goals. Develop that resilience, that inner fire that refuses to be extinguished, and let it guide you through the highs and lows of your path.

Secondly, honing my communication skills was a game-changer. In this line of work, being able to articulate ideas, connect with people, and convey messages effectively is key. Whether it’s writing a captivating press release, pitching a story to a journalist, or speaking on behalf of a client, mastering the art of communication opens doors and creates opportunities. So, my advice is to invest in your communication skills. Read, write, practice public speaking, and seek feedback to continuously improve. Remember, clear and persuasive communication is a superpower that will set you apart.

Lastly, building and nurturing relationships was instrumental in my journey. The power of networking and forming genuine connections cannot be underestimated. From mentors who guided me along the way to colleagues who became lifelong friends, the people I met shaped my career in ways I couldn’t have imagined. So, my advice is to be proactive in building your network. Attend industry events, reach out to professionals you admire, and be genuine in your interactions. Remember, relationships are built on trust, respect, and mutual support. Foster those connections, and they will become a source of guidance, collaboration, and opportunities throughout your journey.

So, as you embark on your own journey, embrace the qualities of grit, communication, and relationship-building. Cultivate your resilience, sharpen your communication skills, and invest in building meaningful connections. Trust me, these qualities, skills, and areas of knowledge will serve as the pillars of your success.

And never forget, no matter where you come from or what obstacles you face, hard work and determination can take you far. Believe in yourself, stay true to your passions, and never stop learning. Your journey may have just begun, but with the right mindset and these foundational qualities, the possibilities are endless.

Now go out there and make your mark on the world, my fellow dreamers. You’ve got this!

Awesome, really appreciate you opening up with us today and before we close maybe you can share a book recommendation with us. Has there been a book that’s been impactful in your growth and development?
Ah, let me share with you the profound impact that “The Principles and Power of Vision” by the late Dr. Myles Munroe has had on my journey. This book has touched the depths of my soul and transformed my perspective in ways I can hardly put into words.

As a publicist and publisher, I’ve encountered countless challenges and faced moments of doubt. But within the pages of this book, I discovered an unwavering truth—one that has set my spirit ablaze with renewed determination. Dr. Munroe’s words taught me that success is not dictated by the state of the economy or the opinions of others. No, my dear, it is far greater than that.

I learned that my vision is not limited by external circumstances or the resources I have at hand. It is a powerful force that transcends boundaries, that breaks free from the shackles of limited perceptions. Dr. Munroe’s time-tested principles reminded me that the fulfillment of my vision is within my grasp, no matter where I come from or what obstacles I face.

The most valuable lesson I gleaned from this book is the unwavering belief in my own potential. Dr. Munroe’s words echoed in my heart, urging me to embrace my vision wholeheartedly and to pursue it with unwavering determination. I realized that the journey towards my vision may not always be smooth, but through the principles he shared, I found the strength to persist, to overcome challenges, and to keep my eyes fixed on the ultimate prize.

This book shifted my mindset and opened my eyes to the immense power I possess within. It encouraged me to discard limiting beliefs and embrace a mindset of abundance and possibility. I now understand that I have the resources, the creativity, and the resilience to bring my vision to life.

But the impact of “The Principles and Power of Vision” goes beyond personal success. It awakened a deep sense of responsibility within me. It revealed that my vision is not solely about my own achievements, but about making a difference in the lives of others. Dr. Munroe’s words ignited a fire in my soul to use my platform, my skills, and my influence to positively impact society, to leave a lasting legacy that extends far beyond myself.

I carry the wisdom of this book in my heart as I navigate the journey of being a publicist and publisher. I hold on to the belief that my vision is powerful and purposeful. I persevere with unwavering determination, knowing that my success is not limited by external circumstances or the opinions of others. And above all, I embrace the responsibility to make a meaningful impact on the lives of those I serve.

“The Principles and Power of Vision” has become a guiding light, illuminating my path and igniting my passion. It has forever shaped the way I approach my work, my relationships, and my own personal growth. I am forever grateful for the wisdom it has bestowed upon me, and I carry it with me every step of the way.
